April 15th was one of those easterlies we love so much.  The wind was 10 to 20 with gusts higher and  30 degree shifts.  We had three boats today.  Andy came down to crew with Stu but was so sick that Stu let Andy off the hook.  We probably all should have stayed ashore.  We set a windward/leeward course and got the first race started.  The Kelly's were in the lead on the first downwind and set the spinaker, gybed it in a lull, doused and rounded the mark.  Their timing was good because as soon as they rounded the mark they were in a strong gust.  Bob and Bob were preparing to douse and had just removed the pole when the gust hit them.  They were history and Bob got another successful capsize under his belt.  He is safely in the lead for "most capsizes".

Finally up.  They got their main back up and we all headed to the docks.

February 11, 2017 - A Warm Day in February

We had a nice breeze from the South and a record 5 boat fleet.

I can't remember- there were four or five races.  Stu and Paula left one race short because Paula and Ken were hosting a Day Sailer dinner at their house.

Headed to the leeward mark
Stu and Paula (Paula crewed for Stu today) and Bruce and Janet.  They were first to the windward mark in the first race.  Go Stu and Paula.

January 28,2017 Cold

58 degrees is cold for us Floridians.

The wind was a cold northerly coming it at about 8-12 with some higher gusts.  You may have to ask the sailors that were out there.  The Kelly's had their trouble before leaving the dock.  A parted main haylard kept them onshore.  Stu set the course on the western shore closer to the big bridge which was a little more protected that the middle of the bay.  That gave the Kelly's an opportunbity to climb the bridge and watch the racing and get some far away pictures.  We should have had a tape recorder because we realized we giving play by plays from the bridge.  "Bob and Angie, gybe now-- that was a pretty nice gybe.  Stu just got headed.  Bruce and Janet aren't pointing as high as Stu but they are going faster.  Look at Bob and Angie sailing by Stu and Andy -  where did that speed come from?  There was more but we won't tell.

Better

It was definitely windier that it looks.  I have windburn from being on the bridge.
